6 Techniques to Deal with Wedding Anxiety

Reality check, wedding anxiety exists! In fact, this happens to nearly all the brides we know. Having wedding anxiety is understandable given the high emotions and stress of preparing for your big day. You have hundreds of things to think about from the theme down to your invitation’s font style. And yes, it can be overwhelming. But remember, weddings should be fun and enjoyable. Don’t let your anxiety ruin one of the best days of your life. So the question is, how do you do it?

Steps in managing wedding anxiety

Start preparing as early as you can
Tight deadlines can really add up to your stress. That is why it is important that you prepare as early as you can. In addition, it would also be beneficial if you plot a schedule first so that you can keep things on track and be able to see the progress. We suggest that you create a checklist of the things you need to accomplish and then organize it in your calendar.

It’s always good to ask for help from families and friends
If you want your wedding preparations to be less stressful, then one of the best ways to do it is to ask for help. You can call up your closest friends and your family to support you. It doesn’t matter if they cover simple tasks such as driving you to the wedding venue or calling up suppliers. It will still surely take a load off your shoulder. But remember to be considerate with their schedules too. Ask them if they are available and be flexible as well. And lastly, don’t forget to thank them!

If your families and friends are too busy or unavailable, you can always work with wedding planners. Apparently, they have done this countless times and they should be able to help you with your needs. Just tell them what you need, and they can do the hard job for you.

Seek comfort from your partner
If you are feeling stressed or you feel that the anxiety attacks again, talk to your partner and seek emotional support. You can ask for him to be more involved and to pitch in his ideas as well. Bear in mind that you don’t have to do all the decisions. After all, your wedding is both for you and your partner.

Try to meditate
Learning how to meditate can do wonders. It really sets your mood and releases tension. If you can, try to enrol in a yoga class. Or perhaps, start your day by listening to good music. You wouldn’t believe how a 5 to 10- minute meditation can do to your mental and emotional health. Really, it can do wonders.

Don’t forget to reward yourself
It’s also good if you take a ‘milestone’ approach when preparing for your wedding. Let’s just say you were able to decide which theme you’d go for, or that you were able to pick your wedding venue. It wouldn’t hurt if you reward yourself after each milestone. You can treat yourself for a relaxing spa or get something nice for yourself. With this trick, you will be more eager to finish all your wedding deliverables and enjoy as well.

Talk to a professional therapist
While having anxiety during wedding preparation seems normal, there are cases wherein it can take a toll on your daily routine and your health. If this is the case, it is highly recommended that you seek professional help.

You can never be too sure what will happen on your wedding day. And yes, there might be minor deviations from the original plan. But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be fantastic. With careful preparation and a great support system, coupled with a relaxed state of mind, your wedding will turn out just fine.
